Dear Mrs. Billups and family - Our prayers are with you and our brother Dwayne during this time of sadness. I was part of the scout leadership at Saint Peter Claver Church where we had many occasions to enjoy the company of our brother Dwayne. He had a great heart that welcomed all especially the youth. He had a mission to serve and build our youth and he did it with such grace and gentleness. He was on my son's Eagle Scout panel and we experienced the way he supported and guided him on his path to Eagle Scout. What I liked about him was he did not see the process as a way to weed out youth but as an opportunity to help youth see the potential and promise ahead of them. I remember him telling my son about the strengths he had in himself and family and his calling to build the world we live in. We spent some time in camp with the youth too and it was so good to have him with us. I will miss his presence but know that the light he has lit on many youth will be shining on earth as he makes his way to be one with Jesus. Thank you Brother Dwayne. Bruce Corrie
Deepest condolences, from Felisa and family. What an impact he had in our lives, we are so grateful to have met Dwayne and the scouting family, every event and camping trip was filled with his great energy, life experiences and love. Whenever he wanted you to listen he started out with "watch this here" "watch this here" . I know this is a heavy hurt and I pray for your comfort and peace. Love Felisa Jones & Family.
Dear Mrs Billups and family,
Introduction: I was with St Peter Claver Boy Scouts and knew Duane from many many camping trips with Pilgrim Baptist aka Troop 61.
Duane went to Mechanic Arts, myself Johnson, and we had tons of laughs ripping each other about which football team was better.
The boys always respected “Mr. Billups” and you could tell he loved working with them.
I truly miss those days and witnessing the positive influence Duane had with the boys.
God please bring Duane home safely. He will be missed.
Jeff Sheehan Troop 96 SPCC.
